Rod Carter is an evening reporter and fill-in anchor for News Channel 8. He joined the news team in July 2000. 
    Before coming to WFLA, Rod was morning anchor and reporter at WVTM in Birmingham, Ala.He has also worked in several other cities, including Augusta, Ga., Gainesville, Fla., and his hometown, Tallahassee, where he was weekend anchor at WTXL-TV.
    Rod became interested in journalism as a young man. While in high school, he took part in a shadowing program where he followed a reporter for a day. Since then, he's been hooked on broadcasting.
  Rod has had the opportunity to anchor and report on several national stories, including covering the arrest of Robert Blanton, one of the men convicted in the 1963 church bombing in Birmingham, the crashing of a small plane into Tampa's Bank of America building and a deadly tornado in Birmingham.
    Rod has also covered several hurricanes, often following the storm to where it hits land. While in Tampa, Rod has covered politics, Buccaneers football, and a variety of other stories affecting people in the Bay Area.
     When not at work, Rod enjoys reading, music, movies and church.
He is a member of the Beulah Baptist Institutional Church, where he works with the Public Relations Committee and sings in the Male Chorus.
      Rod is a proud 1990 Graduate of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.
   He's also a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, The National Association of Black Journalists and is V.P./Broadcast of Tampa Assoc. of Black Journalists. He's former vice president for broadcast of the Birmingham Chapter of NABJ and a founding member of the Birmingham Metro Chapter of the FAMU Alumni Association.

Rod has had the opportunity to anchor and report on several national stories. He traveled with both the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during their championship seasons.
   He also traveled with the Jeb Bush campaign during his re-election bid.
When not at work, Rod enjoys reading, music, movies and church.
    He is a member of the Beulah Baptist Institutional Church, where he works with the Public Relations Committee, sings in the Male Chorus, the Mass Choir and the Praise Team. He's also active in Sunday School.
   Rod is a proud 1990 Graduate of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.
  He's a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, The National Association of Black Journalists and is former Vice President of Broadcast of the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists. While in Birmingham, Rod served as Vice President of Broadcast for the Birmingham Chapter of NABJ.

In his 6 years here, Rod has covered many local and national stories including the championships for both the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
   Rod is a proud 1990 Graduate of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. Before arriving in Tampa was an anchor and reporter in Birmingham, Augusta, Ga and Gainesville, Fl as well as his hometown, Tallahassee. Rod's heart has been in journalism since he was in high school and was able to shadow a reporter for a day.
    He's a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, The National Association of Black Journalists and is former Vice President of Broadcast of the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists.

Rod Carter anchors NBC 13 HD's Today in Alabama and NBC 13 HD Midday. He previously worked for NBC 13 from 1996 to 2000 as a reporter and anchor. Rod's career has taken him to many southeastern cities, including Augusta, Ga and Gainesville, Fl as well as his hometown, Tallahassee. His most recent job was reporter and fill-in anchor in Tampa Florida for NBC 13's sister station, WFLA-News Channel 8.
  Rod is an award winning journalist who has covered many local and national stories including the championships for both the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers... not to mention countless other stories.
      Rod is a proud graduate of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee and a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He is also very active in organizations, serving as Deputy Director of Region III for the National Association of Black Journalists, Vice-President of Broadcast for the Birmigham Association of Black Journalists and is former Vice President of Broadcast for the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists. 
   Rod is a member of 6th Avenue Baptist Church in Birmingham. In Tampa, he was a member of Beulah Baptist Institutional Church where he worked with a number of ministries including public relations, new members orientation, the male chorus, the mass choir, and the praise team. He was also part of the finance committee, singles ministry, vacation bible school and worked with the youth department. When he's not working, he's either catching up on prime-time tv (NBC's Law and Order: SVU is one of his favorites) or reading. 
   Toni Morrison and Gregory Maguire are two of his favorite authors. Drop him a line and say hi.
